| Bio of the Artist |
Alex Raven (Wojciech Rymarczyk), born in Poland, in the city of
Lodz on the 6th October 1980.
Ever Since I can remember music music always played a major
role In my life. Even before I started attending a music school in
Zgierz I would sit next to my father as he played on the piano. I
loved the sound given off by this instrument. In my family home
music was constantly playing, usually Kisilewski and
Tomaszewski koncert among others, on our family megaphone. I
put a large amount of emphasis on this because it is these
beginnings that are the soul of what I do at the moment.
T play ypu do not need lessons… however talent, heart and a vivid
imagination are a must that’s why I couldn’t stand the preasure
that I was put under at this institution. Maybe that’s a bad thing maybe not…? In heinsight I
don’t regret anything, because this allowed me to stay open to all kinds of music.
The origins of what i do today started when i recieved my first computer ( awful by todays
standards ). That is when I started my first experiments with electronically produced music
with the help of a programme called Fast Tracker. An awful programme but for the
paramaters of the Amiga PC it could surprise with its sound quality. Added to this my new
found fascination with rave music came to life. I started listening to people such as: Dune,
Leila K., Scooter, Marusha (and the piece Somewhere chich always touched me deeply.)
And his is how the Dj Blacky (1995-2000) came into existence. Definetaly dominated by rave
Blacky recorded a couple of tracks an an old cassette.
In the latter part of the 1990’s I produced a few remix’s which were no longer pure rave
based.. step by step I started heading towards trance and production required more dedication,
time effort, and equipment.
After his the Amiga went on ‘retirement’ and I received my first PC. This is when I first
discovered an interesting little programme called ProDj – nights turned into dawn and I was
slowly discovering all the different samples available, not really understanding much. Only
later did I realize a flaw in this piece of equipment as it only allowed me to use already made
extracts and re-arrange them as I pleased, this is when I decided to ‘cheat’ the programme and
create my own tracks, to accomplish this I used the help of ‘Tracker Pro’. With the help of
‘Tracker Pro’ and “ProDj’ I started getting what I wanted but at a poor quality and this is
when ‘Acid Music’ came to the rescue helping me achieve the quality of sound that I wanted.
These were quality times and the times when the piece Kai TRacid – Life is too short took
over me.
My end of school exams and university bought an abrupt end to my adventure with creating
music, but DJ Blacky in my eyes is the beginning and not the end – although at the time I
probably did not realize this.
The year 2002 brought me back to experimenting with music, although i did not create much
as DJ Blacky was no longer within me. Looking for new programmes on which to create I
discovered Fruity Loops 3 – and I carried on where I left off. I soon realized that this piece of
software is miles ahead of what id used before. This is when I created my first two proper
pieces ‘Forgotten Souls’ and ‘Last Trip’.
It was then when Alex Raven was born, and ever Since i have been using Fruity Loops, to
create my music.
I would like to give special thanks to my two closest friends Trociu and Finger for always
supporting me and of course to my brother Zajac who has always supported what I do. |
